A Long Weekend on the Hibiscus Coast

The Hibiscus Coast doesn't ask you to rush, and a long weekend here works best if you let each town do its own thing rather than trying to see all three in a day.

Friday: settle in

Arrive in the afternoon and stay close to base. Margate's promenade is the easy option for a first walk — flat, close to the water, and busy enough in the late afternoon that you will already feel the pace of the place. Dinner can wait until you have watched the sun go down over the water.

Saturday: the lagoon and the dunes

Morning belongs to Ramsgate. The lagoon is calm enough for a swim with kids, and the village itself is small enough to walk end to end before lunch. In the afternoon, head south to Southbroom, where the beaches empty out fast the further you walk from the car park — bring a book and stay until the light turns gold.

Sunday: one more swim

Before heading home, one more swim wherever you liked best on Saturday is the right way to end it. The coast is small enough that nothing is more than twenty minutes away, so there is no need to plan the last morning too carefully.
